Twelve sailors were missing Wednesday after a Vietnamese cargo ship sank in waters off the country's southern Kien Giang province, the Vietnamese news website Vnexpress reported Wednesday.
  
There were 23 sailors on board when the ship named Van Don 2 sank Tuesday. Eleven others have been rescued by Wednesday, said the report, citing sources with the Vietnam Mission Control Centre, Xinhua reported.
  
Local authorities are speeding efforts to find the other missing crew, said the report.
  
The 6,900-ton cargo ship, belonging to the Quang Ninh Sea Transport, Import and Export Joint Stock Company, was on its way from Malaysia back to Vietnam.
