UEFA launches Euro 2012 ticket sale process

Europe's ruling football body UEFA on Tuesday launched the registration process for its online sale of match tickets for the Euro 2012 tournament in Poland and Ukraine, dpa reported.

Fans need to open a user account on UEFA's ticket protal in order to apply for tickets March 1-31.

As demand is expected to be higher than ticket availability, a lottery will be conducted in April among the applicants.

Ticket prices range from 30 euros to 600 euros (41-818 dollars) for the 31 matches played in eight cities (four in each country) at the tournament June 8-July 1, 2012.

A total 1.4 million tickets are available, one around a quarter of them are reserved for sponsors, VIPs and the football community.

UEFA officials said in Kiev that tickets can also be sold on for the first time via a special portal from July 1 onwards.

Three types of tickets are on offer via uefa.com: tickets for individual matches, venue-specific tickets and follow-my-team tickets.

UEFA tournament director Martin Kallen on Tuesday also praised the state of preparations in Ukraine which have gained momentum after a slow start and UEFA threats to strip the nation of the tournament.

However, Ukraine is still under threat to lose the event over an ultimatum from the world governing body FIFA to end government interference in football federation matters. FIFA has threatened to suspend Ukraine if football's autonomy is not respected.
