Two people were killed and 14 injured after a car collided with a taxi van full of passengers in Russia's Siberian republic of Khakasia, a local emergencies ministry spokeswoman said on Sunday, RIA Novosti reported.
"The traffic accident took place on the Abakan-Sayanogorsk highway. According to preliminary information, a driver of the Gazel taxi van is responsible for the accident as he turned on the oncoming lane and collided with another car," the spokeswoman said.
She added that medics, rescuers and police are working at the scene of the tragic accident.
According to statistics, 30,000 people lose their lives in traffic accidents every year in Russia due to the poor state of highway networks and reckless driving.
