Valentine's Day gets a health and safety warning

Australians up in the air about Valentine's Day were urged Friday to be down to earth in preparing for it, dpa reported.

"Don't forget to pick up condoms when you're shopping for flowers or chocolate," sexual health expert Treeny Ooi said. "Making sure you are practising safe sex is the best thing you can do for your partner this Valentine's Day and every day of the year."

Ooi, a senior official in the New South Wales Health Department, said picking up a sexually transmitted disease was a sure-fire passion killer.

"The messages are simple: To protect you and your valentine, use condoms and have regular sexual health check-ups," she said.
