Five people including three attackers were killed in an attack on a shopping mall in downtown Kabul, the Afghan capital, on Monday, Kabul Police Chief Mohammad Ayub Salangi said, Xinhua reported.
"Three terrorists attacked City Center at around 2:00 p.m. local time. One of them blew himself up at the gate of the center killing himself and two guards and injured two others on the spot, " Salangi told reporters at the site of the blast.
Two more terrorists were also killed in firefight with police inside the mall, he added.
"All the three terrorists were killed. I personally visited the City Center. The situation is under control and there is no security threat at the moment," Salangi emphasized.
City Center is a shopping mall frequented by foreigners and wealthy Afghans.
The gun battle between police and attackers lasted for about an hour, the police chief said, adding the City Center was also badly damaged.
A similar attack on 26 February 2010 on the City Center left 17 people dead and 34 others injured, mostly civilians.
This was the fourth insurgents' attack in Kabul since January this year. A suicide blast inside a super market on January 28 left eight civilians dead and injured 15 others including five foreigners.
