"I want my old life back" says Berlusconi sex scandal teenager

The young woman at the centre of one of Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi's alleged sex scandals said Wednesday she wanted her previous life back, after arriving in Vienna to attend the Opera Ball event, DPA reported.

"I did not choose this level of celebrity," said Karima El Mahroug - also known as Ruby Rubacuori (Ruby stealer of hearts), ahead of Thursday's high-society ball.

"I want to be the old Ruby, be able to go an have a pizza, go out with girlfriends, go to the movies, and lead a normal life," the 18-year-old woman said at a press conference of her host Richard Lugner. She added that the looks she has been getting recently "are hard to bear."

She said she was looking forward to being a housewife following her planned marriage to the owner of a restaurant and nightclub.

El Mahroug is at the centre of a major political crisis in Italy, where Berlusconi has been accused of having sex with her when she was still 17 years old. Both deny the charge.

She said she was a little nervous about the Vienna Opera Ball. "I don't know how to waltz. I only know how to belly-dance," the Morocco-born el Mahroug said.

Asked about whether some members of Vienna's high society would be offended that she had been invited to the ball, she said: "I hope people will judge me the way I really am."
