Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez returned home Monday after a more than three-week stay for medical treatment for his cancer condition, DPA reported
In comments to Venezuelan television, the 56-year-old Chavez said he would be following a strict medical regimen.
His return comes a day before the country celebrates its the 200th anniversary of its independence, but reports said he would not be able to take part in the celebrations.
In a brief telephone call with state television announcing his return, Chavez said "(Vice President) Elias Jaua received me. I am recuperating."
He said this was the "start of (my) return" and that he would be maintaining a strict daily regimen of medications.
Chavez underwent surgery for a pelvic abscess in Cuba on June 10 and has since been recuperating there.
