UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Monday strongly condemns the bomb attacks in Iraq which killed scores of people and injured many, saying it was a heinous act as it occurred during the holy month of Ramadan, Xinhua reported.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Monday strongly condemns the bomb attacks in Iraq which killed scores of people and injured many, saying it was a heinous act as it occurred during the holy month of Ramadan, Xinhua reported.

"The secretary-general strongly condemns the series of bomb attacks in several cities across Iraq today that reportedly killed dozens of people and wounded many others," said a statement released by his spokesperson. "This is a particularly heinous act as it takes place during the holy month of Ramadan."

In the statement, Ban appealed to the people of Iraq to "reject these attempts to incite further violence in the country".

"He calls upon all Iraqi political leaders to continue to work together towards achieving peace through national dialogue and reconciliation," said the statement.

A series of bomb attacks took place in seven provinces in central and northern Iraq on Monday leaving at least 63 people killed and more than 260 wounded, marking a new escalation of
