A NATO service member lost his live Wednesday in a blast in restive southern Afghanistan's region, the military alliance confirmed on Thursday morning, Xinhua reported.

"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died as a result of an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan yesterday," the NATO-led ISAF forces said in a press release.

However, the brief release did not provide more details and the nationality of the victim, only saying "It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities."

Troops mostly from United States, Australia and United Kingdom have been deployed in southern Afghanistan to fight Taliban insurgents there.

A total of 16 ISAF soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far this month.
