Afghan and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) during a joint operation on Friday in Helmand province 555 km south of Afghan capital Kabul captured a Taliban local leader, a statement released by the alliance here said, Xinhua reported.

"An Afghan and coalition security force captured a Taliban leader during an operation in Nahr-E Saraj district, Helmand province, today," the statement added.

Without revealing the name of the arrested leader the statement said, he was a Taliban-appointed deputy and head of the insurgent group's military commission in Badghis province, adding the captured leader arranged large-scale attacks, distributed weapons and collected taxes.

"He represented both the Taliban and Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan groups and was responsible for coordinating insurgent activities in Badghis and Faryab provinces," the statement further noted.

Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led forces have yet to make comment.

It is the second case that Taliban local leader has been captured since Thursday in the restive Helmand province.

In the previous operation, another Taliban local leader was captured, also in Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province on Thursday, ISAF confirmed in a statement released here.
