The suspect in a string of deadly shootings in France is dead, a police union representative confirmed to journalists at the scene of the man's two-day standoff with police in Toulouse, DPA reported.
Didier Martinez said he heard the information being broadcast over police radios.
He could not, however, immediately confirm media reports that three policemen had been injured - one seriously - in an exchange of gunfire with the suspect, 23-year-old Mohamed Merah.
