US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Wednesday that Washington supports the call for a ceasefire in Syria over the Eid al-Adha holiday - and looks forward to hearing more details from the UN envoy, who earlier said the Syrian government had agreed to the move, DPA reported.
Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi was to brief the UN Security Council later Wednesday and Clinton noted: "We have been in close touch with him and his team. We support his call for a cease-fire for the Eid al-Adha holiday so that Syrians could, you know, celebrate in peace."
"We'd like to see the violence come to an end. There's no doubt about this," Clinton said at the State Department following a meeting with the Brazilian foreign minister.
