A suicide attack in northern Afghanistan on Saturday evening left 10 police officers dead, including two top officials, a police spokesman said, DPA reported.
There were conflicting accounts about how the attack was carried out.
The bomber walked through a crowded bazaar in the city of Kunduz and detonated his explosives vest, police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaini said.
But the Interior Ministry said the bomber was riding a motorbike before he detonated himself.
"At least 10 police officers ... were killed," Hussaini said, adding that 19 others, including five policemen, were injured.
He said that Abdullah Zemarai, Kunduz city's counterterrorism chief and Aslam Saddat, the city's traffic director, were among the dead.
The lone bomber blew himself up in Kunduz's main square, a crowded market area. The explosion broke all the glass in nearby shops, witnesses said.
Meanwhile, another suicide bomber killed a police officer and a civilian in the south-eastern city of Ghazni around midday Saturday, an official with the provincial governor office said.
Taliban fighters usually claim responsibility for attacks targeting Afghan government officials and foreign troops. However, the militants were not immediately available for comment on Saturday's bombing.
The Taliban militants have recently stepped up attacks in the nation's capital, Kabul, as well as across Afghanistan.
Five Taliban assailants killed three traffic cops after an eight-hour long gun battle with security forces in Kabul earlier this week.
