Karzai hopes for "brotherly" relations with Pakistan

Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Monday said he hoped for "brotherly" relations with Pakistan, after talks with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari hosted by the British prime minister, dpa reported.

Karzai said he hoped that oft-strained relations with Afghanistan's neighbour could become "very close, brotherly and good neighbourly", and said the three leaders had a "very frank and open discussion."

He also repeated a call by Prime Minister David Cameron for the Taliban to enter peace talks.

Zardari said Pakistan would support talks with the Taliban: "Peace in Afghanistan is peace in Pakistan. We feel that we can only survive together."
