Suicide bombing kills five in Pakistan

At least five people were killed and about 80 injured in a suicide attack targeting the police chief in south-western Pakistan, officials said Monday, dpa reported.

The bomber detonated a vehicle rigged with up to 1,500 kilograms of explosives near the residence of Mushtaq Sukhera in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, police officer Faiz Muhammad told dpa.

"Two civilians, two Frontier Corps paramilitary soldiers, and one policeman were killed and around 80, including 27 policemen, were injured," Muhammad said.

The police chief was unharmed, according to the official.

Nobody claimed immediate responsibility for the attack.

Ethnic Baloch separatists and Taliban militants are active in the province, routinely target security forces.

The attack came one day after the general elections. At least 28 people were killed on the polling day in bombings and gun attacks on Saturday.
