US diplomat David Satterfield will serve as the temporary replacement for outgoing US ambassador to Egypt, Anne W Patterson, the US State Department announced Friday,dpa reported.
Patterson, whose two-year tenure as ambassador in Cairo ended Friday, will be heading to Washington DC to take up a position as assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs. Patterson's nomination for the position awaits final approval from Congress.
David Satterfield, a Middle East diplomat for more than 30 years, will carry the title of Charge d'Affaires at the embassy until a permanent ambassador is chosen.
