At least 16 civilians were injured Friday morning when Taliban militants attacked a US consulate in western Afghanistan, police said, dpa reported.
"The people were sleeping in their houses around the consulate compound and were injured as the strong explosion broke the glass of their windows," said Abdul Raouf Ahmadi, a spokesman for Herat province police.
The incident took place in Herat city, Ahmadi said, referring to the capital of the province with the same name.
