US Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Jerusalem on Sunday to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resume discussions on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, dpa reported.

"The purpose of the visit is to have an in-depth discussion with the prime minister on the final status negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians, following on the secretary's meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in London last Monday," State Departement spokeswoman Jen Psaki confirmed to dpa.

After being stalled for years, peace talks began again in July. Since then, the two sides have met a number of times, with the goal of reaching a two-state solution within nine months.

Kerry and Netanyahu are also expected to focus on developments in Syria.
