The Colombian navy announced Saturday that it seized 1.4 tons of cocaine from a ship at the Caribbean port of San Andres Island, Xinhua reported.
The cache was packed in cardboard boxes and hidden in salt inside a container, said the navy, adding that the drugs, whose street value was estimated at about 35 million U.S. dollars, were apparently bound for the United States.
The navy said that "timely information received by our network of allies" led to the search and seizure.
A person was arrested during the operation and would face justice, it added.
