French energy corporation Total will continue the course at promotion of cooperative relations with Russia that was conducted by its CEO Christophe de Margerie, who died in an air accident at Moscow's Vnukovo airport on the night from October 20 to October 21, a high-ranking spokesman for the corporation said on Tuesday as he spoke to the Russian ambassador in Paris.

The ambassador, Alexander Orlov, told TASS on his part Total's Senior Vice President for Continental Europe and Asia, Michael Borrell had thanked him for the condolences over Christophe de Margerie's death and said Total's strategy in relations with Russia would remain unchanged and the company would keep up the projects initiated by de Margerie.

Earlier on the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram to French President Francois Hollande saying Total's late CEO, an outstanding French businessman had stood at the inception of many large joint projects, which had laid the foundations of fruitful long-term cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.

"We lost a friend of our country and we will keep the warmest memories about him," Putin said.

A four-seat Falcon 50 business jet bound for Paris crashed at the moment of takeoff at Moscow's Vnukovo-3 business aviation hub on the night from October 20 to October 21. Its undercarriage staked a snowplowing car that happened to be on the runway.

The jet crashed onto the runway, killing Christophe de Margerie, the only passenger aboard, a flight attendant and two pilots.
