Iran against military intervention in Middle East – Ambassador

Iran is against external military intervention in issues of the Middle East and Central Asia, countries in the region are capable of ensuring their own security, said the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Moscow Mehdi Sanai, RIA Novosti news agency reported March 11.

"Iran is against any military intervention from outside in the affairs of the region," said Sanai. "The instability in our region and an increase in acts of terrorism and murder was the result of Western military intervention in the affairs of the region."

As an example, he pointed to the consequences of US military intervention in the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"The fraternal countries in the region should solve arising problems themselves," said the Iranian ambassador.

At the same time, he said that the same applies to cooperation with Saudi Arabia.

"The contradictions between Iran and Saudi Arabia are often talked about," said the diplomat.

"Iran does not hide the fact that it respects Saudi Arabia and believes that this is a country which should participate in resolving the situation in the region."
