Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with the US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the G20 summit in September, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Aug. 30, Sputnik reported.
“It is self-evident that the presidents will in one way or another meet within the framework of the G20 forum,” Peskov told reporters and added that the two leaders would make a separate decision on a meeting on the sidelines of the summit.
US Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications and Speechwriting Ben Rhodes said earlier that Obama and Putin are likely to speak on the sidelines of the G20 despite having no formal meeting scheduled.
The 2016 G20 summit of the world’s 20 biggest economies will be held on Sept. 4–5 in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou.
