Massive 6.4 earthquake hits Taiwan causing hotel to collapse

A giant four-star hotel has collapsed after a massive 6.4 earthquake hit Taiwan, Daily Mirror reports.

The building is reported to be Marshal Hotel in Hualien City, which has almost 300 rooms.

The tremor struck 22km northeast of Hualien at a depth of 1km at 11:50pm local time, the US Geological Survey said on Tuesday.

Photographs posted on social media showed extensive damage to roads and high-rise buildings partially collapsed.

Emergency services are working to free people who are trapped, the reports say.
