Indonesia, Russia reach agreement on military cooperation

(Xinhua) - The second meeting of the Indonesia-Russia Commission for military technical cooperation has resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Russian commitment to provide Indonesia with defense equipment and systems.

The MoU is comprehensive in nature, so that it did not involve only one institution, but several relevant agencies in the supply of the defense system of the two countries, the Antara news agency quoted Secretary General of Defense Ministry Lt Gen Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin as reporting on Friday, reports Trend.

"The MoU is not only for the Indonesian and Russian defense ministries, but for the foreign ministries of the two countries as well," Sjamsoeddin said after the conclusion of the meeting here on Thursday.

He also stressed that the signing of MoU by the two countries was expected to serve as basis for meeting the needs for military equipment and systems in addition to becoming an agenda of discussion in future meetings between of the two countries' heads of state.

Sjamsoeddin also said that Russia has offered a cost scheme for the supply of military equipment and systems by the granting of credits for five years.
