Russia, Uzbekistan stage anti-terror exercise in southern Russia

(RIA Novosti) - An anti-terror exercise involving Russian and Uzbek troops starts Tuesday in southern Russia, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said, reports Trend.

"Establishing of a common planning strategy for joint anti-terror activity involving Russian and Uzbek troops is the main goal of the exercise," the spokesman said.

He said Special Forces from Russia's North Caucasus Military District and Airborne Command and Uzbek special operations and anti-terror units will practice coordinating their operations during the five-day drill in the Krasnodar Territory, which borders on North Caucasus region, 1,000 miles south of Moscow.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov and his Uzbek counterpart Ruslan Mirzayev are expected to attend the exercise.
