Ukraine's President spoke to Javier Solana

(ForUm) - Victor Yushchenko called Javier Solana, Secretary General of the EU

Council to speak about results of the October 27 Ukraine-EU summit in Helsinki and Ukraine's WTO prospects, president's press office reported.

Mr. Yushchenko said he was pleased with the summit and its constructive atmosphere. He praised the sides for signing agreements on extradition and visa procedures.

The President said WTO membership was a significant issue in the context of our relations with Europe." He said the Verkhovna Rada had passed six WTO bills on November 2 and three bills today. He believes this will enable the WTO working group to present their report by the end of November and Ukraine to start talks on the creation of a free trade area with the European Union, reports Trend.

Mr. Solana was also interested to learn about results of last week's meeting of the economic cooperation committee of the Yushchenko-Putin commission, which involved Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov.
