(RIA Novosti) - Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov is due in Ukraine December 6 for a two-day official visit expected to focus on security issues.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Anatoliy Hrytsenko told reporters Thursday that Ivanov will take part in a session of the Ukrainian-Russian intergovernmental commission's security subcommittee, reports Trend.
"During the visit, we will sign a plan of cooperation between the Defense Ministries of Ukraine and Russia for 2007," Hrytsenko said.
He also said he was hopeful that the subcommittee will soon start operating on a permanent basis.
Hrytsenko said Ukraine would like Russia to share its expertise in shifting to a professional army and providing medical care for service personnel.
