Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has described a new package of US bills targeting Russia as Washington’s emotional exaltation and stressed he did not expect any sober-minded assessments from US legislators, Trend reports referring to TASS.
He said as much commenting on a resolution calling for accountability for the assassination of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, a bill to investigate Russian President Vladimir Putin’s finances and a bill prohibiting recognition of Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea approved by the US House of Representatives
"Such bills can only have an adverse effect (on relations between Moscow and Washington - TASS). This very unfriendly, rampant anti-Russian sentiment line continues. This is a continuation of this emotional exaltation. Therefore, we do not expect any kind of sober-minded assessment from US legislators now," he said.
The Kremlin spokesman stressed that members of the US Congress "are strongly influenced by these emotions, which prevent them from assessing the situation soberly and show at least some kind of political will to take actions, which we believe would meet the two countries’ interests best of all."
He is also certain that the intensify of Russophobia will increase as the US presidential election approaches. "It will be easy for any expert who knows the United States’ modern and contemporary history to predict that, as the presidential election approaches, the intensity of Russophobia will only increase, because, much to our regret, anti-Russian sentiment has always been used as an electoral tool in the US," the Kremlin spokesman concluded.
