We told Hamas the right way to pursue and the consequences it would face in the event the wrong path was chosen, Gul said.
Speaking to reporters at Ankara's Esenboga International Airport prior to his departure for Saudi Arabia, President Gul said that "had Turkey been given an opportunity in 2006, what took place (in Gaza) recently may have been avoided. Gaza would have been different today if Turkey was given an opportunity".
The unity among Palestinians is crucial for the Palestinian issue, Gul said, reported World bulletin.
"The Palestinians are some of the most educated ones in the Arabic world. They must be open to pluralism and must be able to act together. We will do what is necessary so that the Palestinians work together," Gul said.
Reminded about some Israeli news reports that Jewish people living in Turkey are "concerned" about the tension between Turkey and Israel, Gul stressed that "all who are citizens of the Republic of Turkey have equal rights".
There could not be discrimination against any citizen, Gul said.
Israel and Jewish citizens of Turkey are separate issues, Gul also said.
