Turkish customs guards seized 135 kg of heroin at a border gate with Iran on Monday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
The customs teams found the illegal substance stashed in hidden compartments of a truck that entered Turkey from Gurbulak Border Gate, according to the report.
It said that the truck was said to be headed for the Turkish largest city of Istanbul. The driver of the truck was detained, Xinhua reported.
Meanwhile, Turkish security forces confiscated 48.3 kg of hashish in operations conducted between April 16 and May 3 in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, said the report, in which 22 suspected people were arrested in connection with the illicit drugs.
Turkey is a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in western Europe.
