China and Turkey Friday pledged to boost law enforcement cooperation, Xinhua reported.
The pledge came out of the meeting between a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Zhou Yongkang, and visiting Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay at the Great Hall of the People.
Friday was Turkish National Day, and Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, conveyed greetings to Atalay and his delegation.
Zhou, also secretary of CPC Central Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, said the Chinese government pays much attention to its law enforcement cooperation with Turkey.
Zhou recalled his visit to Turkey five years ago, saying the two countries have since made joint efforts to combat the "three evil forces" -- terrorism, separatism and extremism.
Atalay agreed with Zhou's proposal, saying his country hopes to work more closely with China to combat cross-border crimes.
On broader China-Turkey ties, Zhou said Turkey, as a Eurasian country stretching across western Asia and southeastern Europe, is an important country in the Islamic world with many ethnic Chinese residents.
Zhou underscored China's commitment to developing ties with Turkey, saying the recent establishment of China-Turkey strategic cooperation has ushered in a new era in bilateral ties.
Atalay said Turkish President Abdullah Gul's visit to China last year and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Turkey earlier this month have bolstered bilateral relations.
Atalay said Turkey will adhere to the one-China policy and ban any organization or individual from trying to split China from Turkey.
Earlier Friday, Chinese State Councilor Meng Jianzhu met with Atalay.
