Turkey's interior minister said on Friday that Turkish was the official language of Turkey beyond argument, Anadolu News Agency reported.
Speaking to reporters after the third meeting of interior ministers of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Istanbul, Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay commented on the recent discussions over the "democratic autonomy model".
"We consider the recent remarks and discussions as political and propagandistic moves that will not lead to any practical results," Atalay said.
"Turkish is Turkey's official language. This is an indisputable fact. Within this context, demands on two languages and similar acts are totally worthless," he said.
The minister said that there were various languages used in Turkey which could be considered as a cultural richness.
"We have presented all the necessary solutions in order to ease the teaching, learning and daily usage of these languages. Decisions were taken on the issue and they are being implemented at the moment," he said.
Atalay noted that Turkey's unitary structure, official language and single flag were not issues open to discussion.
The minister also said Turkey got more free and democratic with each passing day, besides, numerous reforms were being implemented in the country in areas such as local administrations.
"Of course our citizens will speak their mother tongue. However, Turkey will also proceed on its way preserving its unity and unitary structure. This is our opinion and goal concerning this matter," he said.
Atalay also stated that Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) was the legitimate addressee under the roof of the Turkish parliament for the solution of this problem.
He said structures with no official identity such as the Democratic Society Congress would harm the functioning of the current process.
