Turkey's president, who is currently paying a formal visit to Iran, has said that he hoped the transformation process in the Middle East and Islamic world would have an honorable and happy ending for all the nations living in the region, Anadolu News Agency reported.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul met with Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran on Monday.

The two leaders held a a joint press conference after their tete-a-tete meeting and talks between Turkish and Iranian delegations.

Upon a question on the latest developments in the Middle East, Gul said, "Nowadays, we are witnessing major changes in our region, especially in the Middle East and Islamic world".

Expressing the importance of paying attention to nations' demands, Gul said countries should implement both political and economic reforms in line with their peoples' requests.

"Therefore, sometimes people push for the changes that cannot be realized by administrations and leaders. This is the current situation in our region. Public acts as the pioneer when leaders fail to do so. We hope all the countries and nations would get over the current process in a strong, honorable and happy way as soon as possible," he noted.

Commenting on his visit to Iran as well, Gul said Turkey and Iran had historical relations, as well as a common culture and border.

Noting that bilateral and regional issues had been on the agenda of his meeting with Ahmadinejad and the talks between delegations, the president said Iran's nuclear program had also been discussed during the talks.
