FM says Turkey evacuates nearly 15 thousand from Libya

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Saturday said Turkey had evacuated so far nearly 15 thousand people -- including Turkish citizens and foreign nationals -- from Libya, Anadolu Agency reported.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Saturday said Turkey had evacuated so far nearly 15 thousand people -- including Turkish citizens and foreign nationals -- from Libya, Anadolu Agency reported.

"Evacuation efforts are underway as planned and so far Turkey has evacuated 14,776 people, of which 579 are foreign nationals," Davutoglu said after an Istanbul meeting with leaders of a peace initiative from Iraq's Tal Afar city.

Davutoglu said two Turkish frigates, TCG Iskenderun and TCG Orucreis, set sail from Libya's Benghazi port with 517 people from 25 countries on board.

"There are 208 Vietnamese, 99 Bosnian, 34 Macedonian, 31 Korean, 30 Serbian, 44 Syrian and other country nationals on these two frigates," Davutoglu said.
