If Turkey imposes economic sanctions against Syria this will negatively affect the economy of the very Turkey as the sanctions envision suspension of strategic cooperation with the country, Ali Halaman, member of the Great National Assembly (Parliament) of Turkey, told Trend on Wednesday.

"Suspension of Turkey's strategic cooperation with Syria would affect the economy of Turkey," said Halaman, who is also a member of the Parliament's Transport and Building Committee.

As viewed by him, suspension of cooperation with Syria would affect negatively primarily Turkey's trade as the country carried out a lot of its trade operations with the regional countries through the territory of Syria.

"Sanctions against Syria would do damage to Turkey's transit transportation, which is fraught with huge damage to the country's economy," he noted.

As for alternative transit transportation, the MP believes that the Turkish Government-offered variant of transportation via Iraq is inefficient.
