Turkey regrets the outcome of the UN Security Council vote that failed to stop the use of force against the peaceful citizens of Syria, Turkish President Abdullah Gul has told the TV channel, TRT.

Gul said, the events in Syria assumed "a dangerous character."

"The Syrian President must recognize the loss of his legitimacy. It will be the right step for the good of the Syrians" Gul said.

Using the veto, Russia and China blocked the adoption of a resolution on Syria at the UN SC last Saturday. This is the second time Russia and China, as permanent members of the UN SC, did not allow a resolution on Syria.

Anti-government protests, which began last March, continue in Syria. Daily reports are received detailing the deaths of both civilians and security forces. According to the UN statistics, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 5,000 people. The Syrian authorities accuse armed militants of the clashes, who receive assistance from neighboring countries.
