Former Chief of Turkish Armed Forces General Staff Ilker Basbug announced about his intention not to answer the court's questions and waived his right to defense, TRT Haber TV channel reported.

Basbug is accused of involvement in organization of a campaign to discredit the ruling Justice and Development Party.

Earlier, on Jan.6, Basbug was taken into custody in the courtroom, where he was called to testify.

General Basbug retired in 2010. At present, his connection with the so-called "Ergenekon" group, accused of anti-government conspiracy, is under investigation.
