Eight people detained in Turkey after antiterrorist operation

During the special operation of the Turkish security forces eight people have been arrested in Istanbul, TRT Haber TV channel reported on Saturday.

The detainees are suspected of involvement in several terrorist attacks and supporting the terrorists of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

PKK fighters regularly organize terrorist attacks both against the civilian population and the country's security forces.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which seeks creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for more than 25 years, it has claimed more than 40,000 lives. The UN and the EU recognized PKK as terrorist organization.

PKK militants have repeatedly threatened the Turkish authorities with intensification of armed conflict, if concrete steps to address long-term Kurdish problem are not taken.
