The Syrian opposition has captured two army generals whilst at the same time demanding the release of two Turkish journalists arrested in Idlib, the Sabah newspaper reported.

The Syrian opposition has captured two army generals whilst at the same time demanding the release of two Turkish journalists arrested in Idlib, the Sabah newspaper reported.

According to the report, opposition members told the authorities they will set the generals free after Turkish journalists Adem Ozkose and Hamid Coskun are released. They arrived in Syria to cover the events in the country and are have been kept by the authorities for about a month.

Anti-government protests which began in mid-March 2011 have persisted in Syria for almost a year. Daily reports are being received about the deaths of people, both civilians and the security forces. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 9000 people.

The Syrian authorities accuse armed militants of the clashes saying they receive assistance from neighbouring countries.
