The Borsa Istanbul (BIST) consolidating Istanbul Stock Exchange and Istanbul Gold Exchange started operating in Turkey on April 5, TRT Haber TV channel reported on Friday.

According to the report, the initial capital of BIST will constitute 423 million TRY. The chairman of the board of directors of the burse is Ibrahim Turhan.

Work to create BIST has been underway since October last year. Index operations on the burse have been conducted since the second quarter of the current year and exchange operations will start by the end of the year.

The potential of BIST created by the merger of the Istanbul Stock Exchange and Gold Exchange will reach 32 transactions per second. Previously the capacity of Istanbul Stock exchange was 24 transactions per second.

As reported, 49 per cent of the capital share of the burse will belong to the Treasury of Turkey, five per cent to futures and option exchange and the rest will remain free.
