Russia's state nuclear energy monopoly Rosatom will open a nuclear power media complex in Turkey in 2014, a spokesman for the company said on Friday, İTAR-TASS reported.
A corresponding agreement was signed at the Istanbul Technical University."The staff of the centre, to be created in the technopark of Istanbul's Technical University, will be expected to inform the public at large about the uses of nuclear energy and the project for building country's first nuclear power plant," he said, referring to the Mersin Akkuyu NPP, due to be built by Rosatom in southern Turkey.
Rosatom's nuclear power information centres are established in the regions that use Russian technologies for building nuclear industry facilities. In 2012, the first overseas information centres were inaugurated in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, in the Turkish seaport city of Mersin and in 2013, in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka. There are also plans to open an information centre in the Belarusian capital Minsk in 2014.
The first Russian media complex was inaugurated in the city of Tomsk, in Russia's Siberia, in November 2008. Over the past four years the company has set up 17 nuclear energy information centres, successfully operating in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Smolensk, Saratov, Voronezh, Vladimir, Nizhniy Novgorod and other Russian cities.
