U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel has held talks with Turkish officials in Ankara as U.S President Barack Obama prepares to announce his plan for an offensive against Islamic State militants.
Hagel met General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces Necdet Ozel on Monday at military headquarters in the Turkish capital before meeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Erdogan's meeting with Hagel, which lasted just over one hour, was closed to the press.
Hagel also visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the founder of the Turkish Republic - Mustafa Kemal Ataturk - and signed the visitor's book.
Hagel is also set to meet Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
