Following the rape and murder of a student, Ozgecan Arslan, in Turkey's Mersin province, several ministers of the country demanded to use death penalty against the criminal, Milliyet newspaper reported on Feb.16.

Death penalty was abolished in Turkey in 2001.
The 20-year-old Ozgecan Arslan was raped and killed by a bus driver a week ago.
Her body was discovered in a river in Turkey's south.

The local media reported that Arslan resisted the criminal by using a gasbag.
Three people - the bus driver, his father and friend who helped him get rid of the evidence - have been arrested over the murder.

Thousands of women took part in the protests held on Feb.13 after Arslan's death became known.
