A Turkish soldier died in a clash with a group of suspected smugglers trying to cross from Syria into Turkey, a local official said Tuesday.
"A group of smugglers trying to cross from Syria into Turkey opened fire on border security forces in south-central province of Kilis, killing one soldier," Kilis Governor Suleyman Tapsiz told reporters.
Another soldier went missing following the clash that occurred at around 6 p.m. (1300GMT), Tapsiz said.
The border area where the clash took place was reportedly under Daesh's control, he said, adding that investigations were ongoing.
