Turkish police have started a special anti-drug operation in the country's Adana and Izmir cities and Diyarbakir province, Haber7 newspaper reported Nov.11.

Over 400 policemen have been involved in the operation against drug dealers.

Several people have already been detained as a result of the special operation. No other information regarding the detainees is available.

Previously Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that the country will step up the fight against drug trafficking. Noting that the use of drugs is one of the problems in Turkey, he said the government intends to increase the number of drug treatment clinics.

The prime minister also said the drug dealers will be regarded as terrorists.

Over 48,000 teenage drug addicts have been registered in Turkey. Over the last four years, 316,466 people have been detained in Istanbul for using and selling drugs.
