By downing the Russian warplane, Turkey stopped the violation of its airspace and demonstrated the political will, Armagan Kuloglu, the retired Lieutenant-General of the Turkish Armed Forces, said in an exclusive interview with Trend Nov. 24.
He said that Turkey pays no attention to the country which plane violated its airspace.
He also said that before the Russian warplane was shot down, its crew was repeatedly warned about violating the Turkish airspace.
Kuloglu did not rule out that this incident may cause a short-term political crisis in the relations between Russia and Turkey.
"But given the importance of political ties and economic projects between the two countries, the crisis will not last long," he said.
Today, the Turkish Air Force has shot down the Russian warplane SU-2 in its airspace.
Both pilots managed to eject and the warplane crashed on the territory of Syria.
