A special operation involving over 200 policemen has been launched against drug dealers in Turkey's Istanbul city, Anadolu agency reported Dec.15.

Reportedly, 24 people have already been detained as a result of the operation that is underway in 28 districts of Istanbul.

Earlier, Turkish police carried out such raids in the cities of Adana, Izmir and in Diyarbakir province.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu previously said that the country will enhance fighting the drug trafficking and drug dealers will be regarded as terrorists.

Over the last four years, 316,466 people have been detained in Istanbul for using and selling drugs. Over 48,000 teenage drug addicts have been registered in Turkey.
