The crash of the military helicopter Sikorsky S-70 in Turkey’s Black Sea province of Giresun is the 8th such accident in the country since 2009.
In total, 44 servicemen were killed as a result of helicopter crashes in Turkey until today.
Two people were killed in the south-east of the country during the Sikorsky helicopter crash in 2009 in the Turkish province of Siirt. Moreover, in 2009, another Sikorsky helicopter crashed in Turkey’s Giresun province and killed three people.
In 2012, three Sikorsky helicopters crashed in Turkey, killing eight people. In 2010 and 2012, 16 Turkish servicemen were killed as the result of Sikorsky helicopter crash in Afghanistan. Furthermore, eight people were killed as the result of Sikorsky helicopter crashes in 2013 and 2014 in Turkey.
Seven people, including top soldiers, were killed on July 5 when a military helicopter crashed in the Black Sea province of Giresun. The accident was caused by poor weather. There were 15 people on the board of the helicopter.
