A Turkish soldier was martyred Wednesday in a clash with PKK terrorists in the southeastern Hakkari province, security sources said, Anadolu reported.
The sources who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media said an armed PKK group that attempted to cross border attacked a military base on the Turkey-Iraq border.
Terrorists hit the base with rockets after the fighters were detected by Turkish soldiers. Three soldiers were also wounded in the clash.
PKK casualties are unknown. Turkish units are conducting military operation in the region.
More than 1,200 victims, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
