Baku, Azerbaijan, May 15
By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:
Turkish presidential candidate from the Saadet party (SP) Temel Karamollaoglu urged the Turkish government to stop the construction of the "Canakkale 1915" bridge and the shipping channel in Istanbul, Turkish media reported May 15.
Karamollaoglu also urged foreign companies to abandon investing in the Turkish economy.
He noted that the construction of the bridge and the shipping canal will not make any contribution to the development of Turkey, but, on the contrary, can create problems for the country in the future.
The opening ceremony of the "Canakkale 1915" bridge was planned for 2023, but was transferred to an earlier date and will take place on March 18, 2022.
The construction of the bridge, which will be the longest suspension bridge in the world, began in March 2017.
The Istanbul canal is being constructed to reduce the burden on the Bosphorus Strait, as well as to prevent the threat of environmental and man-made disasters on one of the most intensive sea routes in the world.
